Fitness Swimwear

While the color and style of fitness swimwear used during shows and competitions are left to the contestant, there are still some rules to be followed in some events.

The rules

First of all, no g-strings or thong-type bikinis are allowed.  While the abdominal muscles and lower back should be on
display when the bikini is worn, the gluteus maximus must be covered.

In some competitions, solid colors are preferred with no trimming or accessories on the fastenings.  Metallic
decorations such as gold or silver lame are allowed to enhance the appearance of the swimwear.  Some padding in
the bikini is allowed as well.  However, these additions should be used moderately.  Ideally, the attire should be clean
and decent looking and only calls attention to the body in the way that it emphasizes well the physique being showed
off.  It should not be the main event itself.

Choosing the right outfit for a competition

The judges will be giving points for symmetry, shape, tone, firmness, complexion, poise, and overall physical appearance and presentation. So, the swimsuit must highlight these attributes.  When buying swimwear for a fitness event, you must also give this some serious thought.

Once you have decided on the style and color, you have to try it on before purchase to make sure that the bikini fits you well.  It must fit your body comfortably.  Check if the fabric lies perfectly flat on your body and does not gather at the seams.  There should also be no tension at the straps.  The fit at the leg openings should be just right that you should not see any stretching at the leg openings and that the fabric won’t be digging into your legs.  As to the shoulder straps, they should not be digging into your skin nor be in any danger of sliding or falling down.  For the chest area, coverage and support are very important considerations.  The bikini must show off the bust area while at the same time providing enough coverage.  The support must be just right.  It should lie flat on the skin but not be too tight that the breasts are flattened.   Adjustable straps are ideal so that you can do some adjustments till the bikini top fits just right.

In the dressing room, do some poses, rotate your shoulders and basically just move around to check if the shoulder straps will remain comfortably in place whatever type of movement you do.  Lift your arms, jump a little bit, and do some more poses to test if the top remains in place and your bust remains adequately covered.

If you are dead set on a style, try on the next smaller and the next larger sizes to make sure you buy the one size that
fits all these criteria.  If all the sizes you’ve tried on don’t perfectly fit, you have to widen your options and try another style.
